Seoul Packing List — What to Pack for Every Season
Seoul demands four completely different packing strategies across its seasons — lightweight quick-dry fabrics and waterproof sandals for the July Jangma monsoon, heavyweight down coats and thermal layers for January's Siberian cold near the Han River, and well-layered transitional pieces for the spectacular spring cherry blossom season and autumn foliage at Bukhansan. The one constant across all seasons is comfortable, supportive walking footwear: Seoul's pedestrian culture and extensive subway network log 6–10 miles per day on palace cobblestones, granite mountain trails, and market streets.
By Season
24–41°F
Winter (December–February)
Siberian cold dominates Seoul's winter with lows regularly below 25°F and wind chill near the Han River pushing feels-like temperatures below 10°F. Gyeongbokgung Palace and Bukhansan are dramatically less crowded. Full winter kit is non-negotiable.
- Heavyweight down coat (0°F rated)
- Thermal base layer set
- Insulated waterproof boots
- Wool hat, gloves, and scarf
35–73°F
Spring (March–May)
Seoul's most beloved season — cherry blossoms peak at Yeouido Park in April, temperatures rise from 52°F to 73°F, and the Han River parks fill with picnickers. Layered transitional pieces handle the wide morning-to-evening temperature swings.
- Medium-weight jacket or trench coat
- Knit sweater or cardigan
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Compact umbrella
64–88°F
Summer (June–August)
Seoul's Jangma monsoon season dominates June–July with 10–16 rain days per month and oppressive humidity pushing 88°F August heat to feel 5–10°F warmer. Quick-dry fabrics and waterproof sandals replace cotton and leather footwear.
- Quick-dry moisture-wicking shirts
- Waterproof sandals or water-resistant sneakers
- Wind-resistant compact umbrella
- Thin cardigan for aggressive AC
37–79°F
Fall (September–November)
Post-monsoon autumn is Seoul at its finest — October's Bukhansan foliage peak and Chuseok celebrations combine with ideal temperatures (50–79°F) and reduced humidity. Layered coats and ankle boots match the city's elevated autumn fashion culture.
- Medium-to-heavyweight coat
- Knit sweaters and long-sleeves
- Ankle boots
- Light scarf and gloves (late November)

General Packing Tips for Seoul
- 1.Seoul's subway system is one of the world's best and connects to every major attraction — dress in removable layers to handle the contrast between 70°F+ heated subway cars and Seoul's outdoor temperatures across all seasons.
- 2.Comfortable, supportive walking shoes are the highest-value packing decision for Seoul regardless of season: the city's palace complexes, Bukhansan trails, and pedestrian neighborhoods like Myeongdong and Insadong average 6–10 miles of walking per day on cobblestones, stone paths, and granite trails.
- 3.Seoul's fashion culture is among Asia's most trend-driven — neighborhoods like Garosu-gil, Hongdae, and Gangnam have high visible style standards year-round; dressing smartly (especially in a quality coat in winter or well-fitted linen in summer) makes the city feel more welcoming and integrated.
